Educate the public about an integral part of Westchester County’s natural world. Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, a Nationally Accredited Parks System, has a Naturalist/Educator seasonal job opportunity available at Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River. Trailside Nature Museum provides an educative experience for visitors through our museum and public programming and events. In addition, the Trailside also hosts a number of school and scout groups and a summer camp for students entering grades pre-K through ninth grade.
 
Responsibilities
  • Plans and implements a variety of environmental interpretive programs for children and adults.
  • Develops lesson plans and leads educational programs for a variety of ages and abilities.
  • Assist in operation of special events and programs.
  • Assists in daily tasks around the museum and surrounding grounds.
  • Maintenance/cleaning duties as necessary.
  • Performs administrative tasks, such as attending meetings and trainings, preparing reports, and maintaining records.
  • Assist or teach summer camp groups from July through August.
  • Offers assistance and guidance to museum patrons.
 
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a love of nature, a willingness to work outdoors, and the ability to communicate effectively. 
  
Hours/Salary
The position of Naturalist/Educator is an hourly position. Work days vary, one weekend day is required. Salary is commensurate with experience.
