Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED With Waterfront for the Professional Rescuer Training Schedule

Learn life-saving skills and work with an award-winning lifeguard team at Westchester County Parks’ pools and beaches this summer! In order to qualify for classes, candidates must pass a pre-test.

Class Information

Training Course 6
Open to applicants who passed the pre-test on April 27.
Class location: Theodore Young Community Center, 32 Manhattan Ave., White Plains, NY 10607
Classes are Sundays, April 27, May 4, 18 and 25 (No Class on Mother's Day, May 11); 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Participants must be 15 years of age by the end of the class. You must be able to attend all classes to complete the course.
Registration is closed.

Training Course 7
Open to applicants who passed the pre-test on May 25.
Class location: Theodore Young Community Center, 32 Manhattan Ave., White Plains, NY 10607
Classes are Sundays, May 25, June 1, 8 and 22 (No Class on Father's Day, June 15); 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Participants must be 15 years of age by the end of the class. You must be able to attend all classes to complete the course.

Training Course 8
Open to applicants who passed the pre-test on May 23.
Class location: Westchester Community College, 75 Grasslands Rd., Valhalla, NY 10595
Classes are Fridays, May 23, 30, June 6, 13 and 20; 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Participants must be 15 years of age by the end of the class. You must be able to attend all classes to complete the course.

Pre-Test Requirements

Pool | Red Cross Pre-Test Requirements (Must be at least 15 years of age):

  • Part I
    • Swim 150 yards
    • Tread water for two minutes
    • Swim 50 yards
  • Part II, timed section
    • Swim 20 yards
    • Surface dive to retrieve brick
    • Swim 20 yards on your back to the starting point holding the brick
    • Exit water without using ladder

Beach | Red Cross Pre-Test Requirements (Must be at least 16 years of age):

  • Part I
    • Swim 350 yards
    • Tread water for two minutes
    • Swim 200 yards
  • Part II, timed section
    • Swim 20 yards
    • Surface dive to retrieve brick
    • Swim 20 yards on your back to the starting point holding the brick
    • Exit water without using ladder
  • Part III
    • Swim five yards
    • Retrieve three rings from the bottom of the pool
    • Swim five yards
