The Range Officer supervises shooters and multiple range areas, which include large and small bore rifle ranges, an archery range, a 14-station 3D archery range and a new trap and skeet area with four combination fields. Located at The Sportsman Center at Blue Mountain Reservation in Cortlandt Manor. Schedules may include some weekdays, weekend and approved Holidays that fall on a Monday.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure safety at the Range at all times
  • Supervise shooters at the Range
  • Inspect firearms and ammunition
  • Assigns individual to shooting stalls and targets; gives commands for firing
  • Teaches the handling and care of firearms and equipment
  • Directs and monitors all customer services
  • Act as first responder for accidents, injuries, property damage or other emergencies requiring immediate attention
  • Reports all infractions of rules and regulations
  • May prepare reports on certifications, maintenance and Range operations
  • Maintain inventory supply of related equipment
  • Maintain areas in and around shooting stalls


Requirements; successful completion of one or more of the following certifications:

  • NRA Marksmanship Instructor, NRA Range Safety Officer or NYS Department of Environmental Conservation
  • Hunter Safety Instructor for Guns
  • 60 hours of supervised paid or volunteer teaching experience in the care and handling of firearm and shooting equipment
    (time may have been gained as part of the above certification requirements)
  • Knowledge of emergency standards and procedures where personal safety of patrons, staff or others may be in danger
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Background Check and Pre-employment Drug Testing required
  • Preference given to military or law enforcement background but not required

Hours/Salary

  • Hourly position. Flexible hours include some weekday, weekend and approved Holidays that fall on a Monday.
  • Salary - $15.50 per hour, commensurate with experience

Work outdoors with a great group of people at various Westchester County Parks locations from April through October, 2024.

Responsibilities of this position varies from park to park and can include directing and greeting patrons, assisting in maintaining stock room and setting up merchandise, as well as processing and receiving payments and issuing receipts to patrons.

Additional hands-on maintenance responsibilities include mowing grass, planting, watering, trimming trees and shrubs, restroom maintenance, removal of debris, basic carpentry, plumbing and painting, use of hand and power tools and equipment. Must be 16 years of age or older.

Nature Camp Teachers Needed with Westchester County Parks, Recreation and Conservation

The Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation is looking for enthusiastic educators, naturalists, and outdoor-enthusiasts to teach at our summer Nature Camps in Westchester’s most beautiful forests, meadows, and shorelines. Camps operate from July through mid-August and teachers will share their knowledge and love of the outdoors with like-minded campers from pre-K through middle school. 

Duties include but are not limited to: developing activities for campers to participate in throughout the day. 

Qualifications
Applicants should enjoy being outdoors and have the ability to communicate effectively. Enthusiasm and curiosity are a plus! Must be 16 years of age or older.

Pre-K group leader and assistant applicants should have experience working with children between the ages of three and five years old.

Hours/Salary
Nature camp teachers are hourly positions. Hours are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Salary is commensurate with experience.
