Jan. 29, 2021 – Based on the success of the 2020 season, the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation is planning on opening its pools and beaches this summer. Applications for lifeguards are now open.

County Executive George Latimer said: “Our pools and beaches provide our residents with a place to relax and cool off in the summer. We could not do this without the dedication of our lifeguards. I encourage those interested in summer employment to apply for this position, and to help us make summer 2021 another great season.”

Applicants must be 15 years or older, possess current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for Lifeguards certifications or equivalent, and pass the Westchester County practical skills test. County parks offers training for new guards, which includes waterfront training for the option to guard at either a pool or beach.

Commissioner of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation Kathy O’Connor said: “Our lifeguards are vital to ensuring the safety of our patrons. Last year they did an outstanding job with the increased safety measures, and they ensured we could keep our pools and beaches open throughout the summer. We are seeking dedicated lifeguards who will make the 2021 season just as successful.”

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation continues to monitor the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and expects to have similar safety measures in place this year including increased sanitization, limited capacity and timed ticketing for Westchester County residents.

Those applying must be able to work at varied locations including Saxon Woods Pool in White Plains, Sprain Ridge Pool in Yonkers, The Brook at Tibbetts in Yonkers, Willson’s Waves Pool in Mount Vernon, as well as Croton Point Park Beach in Croton-on-Hudson and Playland Beach in Rye if waterfront certified.
