The 1,082 acre Sal J. Prezioso Mountain Lakes Park is Westchester’s northernmost county park. Acquired by the county in 1961, it is characterized by a rugged landscape and native hardwood forests, rock outcroppings, meandering streams, beautiful views, the highest mountain in Westchester County and miles of trails. Aptly named, the park boasts five lakes and a spectacular overlook which makes for breathtaking hiking destinations.
Camp Morty takes place each July and offers a quality outdoor sleepaway camp experience for children who are under the care of the Department of Social Services. Emphasis is placed on environmental awareness and sustainable living in a cooperative setting.
Mountain Lakes Park offers the total outdoor experience including camping, fishing, ice skating, hiking, nature exploration, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, picnicking and a high/low ropes challenge course.
Looking for a fun way to foster teamwork between your employees or group? In addition to group camping, we have a ropes challenge course (reservations and instructor required) for organized groups. When you think of a ropes course you may think of cables hanging from the trees or maybe zip lining. Well, our ropes course does have a zip line, but in addition to high ropes it also consists of low ropes elements that accommodate people of all sizes, shapes and abilities. The elements vary in height from 1.5 feet to 50 feet above ground and foster teamwork through challenging situations in a safe and fun environment.
Do you need a place for a large gathering or a place to take your school group, scouts or company? Our spacious and newly renovated Mess Hall is available for use by organized groups, accommodating up to 300 people. The commercial kitchen is available for use only with a licensed caterer or we can provide meals for you. If you are looking for an even bigger adventure, rent the yurt village for an overnight and an experience your group will always remember.
Available year-round in open-face lean-tos. Sleeping capacity is limited to eight people per shelter with the exception of two sites that can accommodate 16 people. Each shelter site has an outside grill for cooking, a designated fire ring for campfires and a picnic table.
Individual yurts, our entire yurt village or our camp director’s cabin can be rented daily or weekly from Memorial Day through Columbus Day each year, except when Camp Morty is in session. Yurts can accommodate 10 people and the director’s cabin can accommodate four. The yurts provide sleeping quarters only, whereas the director’s cabin offers full amenities, excluding linens, towels, toiletries and food. The yurts and director’s cabin are not heated.
Want to stay in the outdoors, but want all of the amenities of home? Laurel Cottage is also available year-round and can sleep four comfortably (six maximum). The cottage is heated and has an indoor wood burning stove, an outside fire ring for campfires, picnic tables, screened-in porch, deck and a row boat.
Camping permits, available to adults age 21 and older, are required and issued at the park office. To make a camping, boating or teambuilding reservation, call (914) 864-7312.
