Parks Commissioner Kathleen O'Connor

“To create life-enriching experiences at safe, clean, affordable parks and preserve our natural resources through responsible leadership.”

This mission statement sums up what we strive to do here at Westchester County Parks, 365 days a year. We host hundreds of sports, entertainment, educational and community events throughout the year, on our more than 18,000 acres of parkland, that includes more than 50 facilities ranging from golf courses, pools and beaches, parks, trailways and nature centers, an events arena and historic sites, to a working farm and arboretum.

We think our department is one of the best in the country, and so does the National Recreation and Parks Association. This prestigious national organization has awarded us  with accreditation for the third time, making us one of only 37 nationally accredited park departments in the country, as well as the only accredited park system in New York State. So this prestigious recognition is truly a feather in the cap for our parks department and we couldn’t be more proud.

Best of all, it is we, the residents of Westchester County, who get to enjoy the direct benefit of this accreditation through the many facilities, programs and events that are available to us through the tireless efforts of the Parks department.

If you’re not familiar with our great park system, take some time to check out this website to see all that is available to you through your parks system, ranging from golf courses, pools and beaches, trailways and nature centers, an events arena and historic sites, to a working farm and arboretum. And, be sure to take a look at our online publication "Backyard Magazine," which features ourveryown “Top Ten” list with things to see and do and places to go to get you started exploring.
