June 2, 2023 – The Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation will offer Fitness in Parks classes at Tibbetts Brook’s new fitness area starting on Sunday, June 11 at 8 a.m. Classes will be led by Gina Lee, who is a certified, personal/group fitness trainer. All sessions will end with a brisk walk in the park.
County Executive George Latimer said: “This new fitness program encourages Westchester residents to get outdoors and workout under trained supervision. Routine physical exercise can increase brain health, boost your mood, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve the ability to do everyday activities.”
Commissioner of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation Kathy O’Connor said: “We are excited to offer a free outdoor exercise program to our residents and invite family and friends to workout whilst enjoying the scenery in this picturesque park.”
The new fitness area includes seven pieces of state-of-the-art equipment that can serve up to 16 users at once. Each piece has a QR code that instructs people how to use it. The apparatuses, which include a rowing machine, lets everyone develop general and specific parts of their lower bodies and upper bodies.
The program will run Sundays through July 30 and beginning at 8 a.m. Class registration is not required. Participants must be age 16 or older, and admission and parking are free.
The fitness area was made possible by generous donations from Kohl's – Blythedale Children’s Hospital’s Eat Well, Be Well program and Greenfield in partnership with the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, Westchester County Department of Health and the Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation.
