Summer Music Center
The program is designed for students entering Grades 4 to 12. No audition is required. Beginners receive an excellent introduction to their instrument from an expert teacher, while advanced students receive instruction to refine their techniques and perfect their musical skills.

Playing and Performing
All students are encouraged to study both a primary instrument and secondary instrument. Classes are divided according to age as well as ability, and all students perform in at least one ensemble: orchestra, band, chorus, woodwind, string, brass or jazz ensemble. Instruction in chorus and music theory is recommended for all students and required for new musicians. Keyboard instruction is offered for beginners only on a first-come, first-served basis.

A Parent/Student Handbook will be mailed to registrants before the beginning of the program. Except for keyboard, instrument rental is the student’s responsibility. Rental instruments are available at most local music stores. Students are responsible for obtaining the required texts. All students will be supplied with a Westchester Summer Music Center T-shirt, which should be worn at all performances.
