Plans are in place to reopen the Sprain Ridge Park pool around July 4, 2017.
ELQ Industries of New Rochelle, the low bidder on the project, is now at work on $7.8 million of repairs and renovations. The contract calls for the bath house, spray park and recreation pool to be ready for swimmers this summer.
And that should just be the start. Once financing is approved by the Board of Legislators, work can begin on a second pool – this one geared for swimming laps, whether in competitions or just for fun.
Sometimes government doesn’t work as fast as everyone would like. When the bids were opened this fall, they exceeded the county’s bond cap. That sent the project back to the drawing board to be redesigned. A staggered construction approach was adopted.
By doing one pool at a time, the county was allowed to stay under the bond cap, and get started on the first phase of construction right away. That means we are back on track for swimming at Sprain Ridge Park pool this summer.
Hope to see you there.
