SnrPoolParty17The annual Senior Pool Party and Barbecue is set for Tuesday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Saxon Woods Pool in White Plains. Rain date is Wednesday, June 21.

Sponsored by Westchester County Parks and the county’s Department of Senior Programs and Services, the pool party is open to Westchester County residents age 60 and older. Seniors are welcome to bring their young grandchildren (ages 5 and under).

Since the pool will not be officially open, seniors and youngsters will have exclusive use of the facility. Saxon Woods also features the “Andy’s Place” playground, which is handicapped-accessible for children with special needs and is fun for kids of all ages.

From 11 a.m. to noon, hamburgers and hot dogs, tossed salad, potato salad, juice and dessert will be available. outside meals are not permitted. Entertainment will be provided by the Total Soul Band along with a water aerobics and tai chi class presented by Tai Chi School of Westchester. In addition, free rounds of mini-golf will be available.

Participants are welcome to bring any additional non-alcoholic beverages. Seating at Saxon Woods Pool is limited; participants are encouraged to bring chairs for seating.

Admission and parking for the event are free; Park Passes are not required for this program.

Lunch Reservations
Suggested lunch contribution is $4 for seniors and a $4 fee for children. Deadline for placing lunch orders is Tuesday, June 9. Come to the fair...the Artisan Faire! A variety of elegant and unique homespun treasures from 25 local craft designers will be on sale just in time for holiday shopping, Tuesday through Sunday, Dec. 3 - 8, from noon to 3 p.m. at Muscoot Farm in Somers. A reception will also take place Saturday evening, Dec. 7.

The main house will be decked in brilliant décor for the holiday season, and you’ll be sure to find something special for just about everyone on your list. Browse beautiful hand-crafted bowls and serving pieces, hand-knitted scarves and hats, one-of-a-kind note cards, uniquely crafted jewelry designs, dolls, candles and more. Payment is by cash or check only and items will range in price from $5 teacher gifts to $100 hand-carved wooden bowls, and everything in between. Admission and parking are free.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, get into the holiday spirit and take part in a wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres at a special evening reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pre-sale admission tickets are $10 before Dec. 5, and $12 at the door; payment is by cash or check only.
Proceeds from the reception and a portion of vendor sales will benefit Friends of Muscoot Farm.

Learn the Benefits of Chair Yoga at The Westchester



Discover a new way that you can increase flexibility in your joints, decrease pain, relieve stress and feel renewed during a presentation on Chair Yoga, Friday, May 6, 9 a.m., at The Westchester in White Plains.

At all ages and in all conditions, yoga can help you relax and improve your sense of well-being. Chair yoga is a gentle yoga for those who may not have exercised regularly, have physical limitations, or find their body has less flexibility. This specially designed program provides the benefits of yoga in a gentle, non-strenuous way stressing breathing techniques and using chairs and other props. The presenter will be Sandra Bernstein, a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. She has been practicing yoga for more than 10 years and is certified to teach hatha, gentle, chair and restorative yoga. Her specialty is working with seniors.

The program will be conducted at the Food Court on Level 4. Admission and parking are free for Be Fit members.
Sponsored by Westchester County Parks, the program offers year-round indoor health walking at Westchester’s premier mall on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

To join the mall walk program, sign up at the horse fountain plaza between Crate & Barrel and Restoration Hardware on retail level two of the mall, on Tuesday and Friday mornings during the program.

Bicycle Sundays 2018Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway, one of Westchester’s longest-running and popular recreational programs, starts Sunday, May 6. The program is held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The program runs May 13 and 20, June 3, 10, 17 and 24, and September 9, 16, 23 and 30. No dates in July or August.

Bicycle Sundays, a Westchester County Parks program, is sponsored by Con Edison, New York Presbyterian Hospital, the Westchester Parks Foundation and Danny’s Cycles, with support from WHUD.

During Bicycle Sundays, the parkway is open exclusively for bicyclists, in-line skaters, scooters, walkers and joggers from Exit 22 at the Westchester County Center to Exit 4 at Scarsdale Road in Yonkers, a round-trip distance of 13 miles. The road is closed to automobiles in that stretch of parkway. Admission to the event is free. Parking is available at the County Center lot in White Plains for $7.

Rules and Regulations:
• Bicyclists, in-line skaters, scooters, walkers and joggers ONLY; no unauthorized motor vehicles allowed.
• Walkers, joggers and slower wheeled traffic must use right lane; faster wheeled traffic must use left lane.
• Helmets are required by New York State law for children under 14 years of age, including those riding in bike trailers, and are recommended for all wheeled participants.
• New York State law prohibits children under age 1 from riding on bicycles or in a separate seat.
• All headsets are prohibited; this includes but is not limited to music devices and hands free
• cell phones.
• No skateboarding allowed.
• No dogs allowed.
• Bicyclists must obey posted parkway speed limit of 40 m.p.h.
• Children riding in strollers must be strapped in at all times.
• Children under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
• All participants must be off the parkway by 1:50 p.m.


Play the best hockey of your life



More passing, more skating, more stick-handling, more shooting, more scoring and more fun – it’s all on the agenda at the first Shoot The Sound 3 on 3 Adult Hockey Tournament, Saturday, March 19, 3:30 p.m. on the Studio Rink at the Playland Ice Casino in Rye.

The tournament is limited to 20 teams, with open and intermediate divisions. Players must be age 18 or older. Each team can bring a maximum of six players and one goalie. Running time for games is 10 minutes and awards will be given to first- and second-place teams. The registration fee is $180 per team and the registration deadline is March 11. The Playland Ice Casino is an indoor, climate-controlled ice skating facility with a main, children’s and studio rinks, a game room, snack bar and lounge. Ice skating lessons are given through the Playland Skating School.
